Global Warming
- The UN has delayed - in effect eliminated - the deadline for countries to declare themselves associated with the "accord" reached in Copenhagen. The deadline set there was the end of January, but now it's basically . . . any time at all.
- The UN's IPCC has admitted and apologized for its Himalayan glacier blunder.
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled.
- The IPCC's 2007 report made the claim that 40 percent of the Amazon rainforest was endangered by global warming.
The World Wildlife Fund was once again the source. However, the WWF report was taken out of context. It was a report on the effect of forest fires. Well, they're warm, aren't they?
And the 40 percent number did not originate with WWF, which apparently "borrowed" it from a letter to the editor of Nature magazine, the subject being harmful logging activities.
So . . . take a half cup of forest fires, add a half cup of harmful logging, and bring to a boil. Yup, that's global warming alright, and a much better process than peer review.
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled.
- The 2007 report claimed that mountain ice was being lost in the Andes, the Alps, and Africa due to global warming. The two cited sources for this claim were yet another article from Nature, this one with anecdotal "evidence" from mountain climbers, and a geography student's thesis, which quoted mountain guides in the Alps.
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled.
- The Netherlands has asked the IPCC to justify the claim in the 2007 report that 55% of that country is below sea level, when the real number is 26%. It appears that the report took the "real" 26% and added 29% for the land above sea level but "threatened by river flooding", then reported the total as below sea level.
Update, February 15: The IPCC admits and apologizes for the error.
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled.
- The 2007 report said that global warming might reduce rain-fed North African crop production by as much as half. Now a "senior contributor" to the report has admitted that there is *no* evidence for that.
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled.
- One of the most powerful players in the global warming scam is Professor Phil Jones, former Director of the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit.
He has admitted (to the BBC) that:- There has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming since 1995.
- The world may have been warmer in medieval times than now. This is a concession that without man's help the climate can indeed grow warmer and that at least *some* more warming would not be "catastrophic."
But that doesn't alter the science, which is settled. - There has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming since 1995.
The United Nations should disband the IPCC and focus entirely on screwing up peace keeping and stealing money wherever there are sanctions on an oil producing country.
As an aside: The IPCC received a Nobel Peace Prize for that 2007 report. Other recent recipients have been Al Gore and Barack Obama. With the possible exception of a government or two, the committee awarding those Peace Prizes is the most left leaning body in Europe, awarding prizes not for accomplishments but simply for holding leftist attitudes. Alfred Nobel is turning over in his grave, and the people on that committee should get a grip.
